The Scholarship

Purpose

SalutingPortrait-600Fallen airman, Master Sergeant Tara Jacobs Brown aspired to better herself as a woman, aviator and student through education. Her passion for learning was an inspiration to countless other service members serving with her in Afghanistan. In her continuing honor, the Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation provides merit-based educational scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the state of Florida. The purpose of the scholarship is provide monetary assistance for the post-secondary education of its recipients.

It is the goal of the foundation to grant scholarships of at least $1,000 to ten deserving high school students in the state of Florida each year. The TJBSF scholarships are granted to students who continually strive to improve themselves through education and have a passion for service like Master Sergeant Tara Jacobs Brown.

The amount of the award may vary though the current amount is $1000 per student.

The foundation does not award any type of loans—only scholarships. The scholarship program is publicized via local high school guidance centers, web promotion, fundraising events and through mail correspondence.

The Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation will maintain case histories of its scholarship recipients including names, addresses, purpose of awards, amounts of each reward, manner of selection and the relationship, if any, of the recipients to any officer, trustee or donor of funds.

The scholarship candidate must:

  • [  ] complete a TJBSF application
  • [  ] have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • [  ] exhibit a love for community  through community service
  • [  ] submit an well-written essay
  • [  ] have proof of admission into an accredited college or university.

The Board of Directors of the Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation determines the number of scholarships awarded each year and the amount  of each grant based on its current funding. Members of the Board of Directors and their relatives are not eligible for scholarship awards.
