The Foundation
Mission Statement
The Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation was created in honor of our fallen Airman Tara Jacobs Brown. The foundation grants need-based and merit-based scholarships to deserving high school graduating seniors.
The scholarship candidate must complete a TJBSF application and must have at least a 3.0 GPA. The candidate must also exhibit a love for community through community service, submit an well-written essay, and have proof of admission into an accredited college or university.

History
On April 27, 2011, Master Sergeant Tara Jacobs Brown was working on a project to build a national communications network in the Air Command and Control Center in Kabul National Airport when an Afghan Air Force Lieutenant Colonel walked in and opened fire, killing Master Sergeant Tara Jacobs Brown and eight other brothers in arms.
Tara Jacobs Brown aspired to better herself as a woman, aviator and student through education. Her passion for learning was an inspiration to countless other service members serving with her in Afghanistan. Among other voluntary activities, Tara established the Kabul Thai Tuesday Club, a weekly fellowship that encouraged women to build strong minds and hearts, and to continually strive to be their personal best.
During memorial services, numerous stories of how Tara affected the lives of others around her inspired the founding of The Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation to honor our fallen airman and keep her legacy alive.
Today
Today, the Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation grants scholarships for higher education based on need and merit to deserving high school graduating seniors. Candidates must complete a TJBSF application and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Qualifying students must also exhibit a love for community through community service, submit a well-written essay, and have proof of admission to an accredited college or university.
It is the goal of the foundation to grant scholarships of at least $1,000 to ten deserving high school students in the state of Florida each year. The TJBSF scholarships are granted to students who continually strive to improve themselves through education and have a passion for service like Master Sergeant Tara Jacobs Brown.
The Future
The Tara Jacobs Brown Scholarship Foundation expects to expand its scholarship base from the state of Florida to the continental United States and even abroad to places like Afghanistan. The TJBSF will also expand its student base to include students who are already enrolled in an accredited college or university and to students currently serving in the U.S. military.
