I first met Tara when I arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan in February 2011, where I was her squadron commander. I clearly remember the first time I walked into her office and met Tara and her boss, Major Phil Ambard. Two amazing people that everyone loved…two amazing people whose lives ended way too soon.

Tara had a giant smile and an even bigger personality and heart. She welcomed everyone like she’d known them for years. Our entire team there was very close – we worked together, ate together, and lived together. We became like a family. Tara was like everyone’s favorite sister in our deployed Air Force family. Always there to lend an ear, five some advice, or laugh at a joke. There wasn’t anyone that couldn’t recognize her laugh…she made the most of every minute and never complained about the long hours or tough and dangerous working conditions. No, she always kept it positive! In fact, Tara was truly one of the most positive people I’ve ever met. I am very hapy that her father has started this scholarship to honor such an amazing Airman. Tara was very proud of her service to her country and not only did it well, she led the way! This foundation will keep Tara’s memory alive and well, and her star shining over all of us and future generations.
